When I first began this project I so lovingly called The Morning Picture Project, I had no idea the amount of work that would come from it. I first started taking self portraits of myself at the moment I woke up in the morning and then asked some people I know to do the same. For me, it was first done for the simple humor and irony of the situation. I had a job that required me to get up at 5 am, and I did not enjoy having to do that. But, if you really think about what waking up in the morning is (another day of life) than you shouldn't be complaining. So, I used photography as a tool to lighten up.
This led me down a philosophical path that I tend to travel often which is the idea that everything matters. I see the world operating as an interconnected web. Everyone has a string that they build on and take from one place to another. All these strings are connected. Every path is important because if it were taken away a connection would be lost and the system would be forever changed. Therefore, all acts and all individuals are significant.
I decided to take this as far as I saw possible and started collecting items that I use on a daily basis to use as my canvas. I felt by physically connecting my everyday people with my everyday items I would be visually representing the value the mundane holds and the connections we all share.
